About

Stories of Colina Park grew out of the Neighborhoods First Initiative in Colina Park.  As part of that initiative, community members spoke of the need to create a unified community, increase cultural understanding, and increase neighborhood pride.  Also, at a Neighborhoods First youth summit in 2008, more than 80 Colina Park youth identified cultural understanding as a goal they wanted to take on.  And that is what they did…

Stories of Colina Park is a two-year service learning project between San Diego LISC, the Boulevard Business Association and the Multimedia and Visual Arts School (MVAS) at Crawford High School.

The students are working with the community partners to develop and implement a community project that achieves the following results:

  • Cultural Understanding
  • Neighborhood Identity
  • Neighborhood Pride

During the 2008-2009 school year, MVAS students:

  • Identified and interviewed diverse community leaders
  • Wrote human interest stories based on these interviews
  • Interpreted the stories through art
  • Created public art installations displayed along El Cajon Boulevard
  • Documented the project through this website and printed materials
